What have you all got to say about the Love Stories in our Punjabi
Literature.. such as Heer-Ranjha, Mirza-Sahiba, Sassi-Punnu etc (you
can discuss other that I haven’t mentioned)? Please address the following in your answers and post serious and meaningful replies only:

  • Do you believe these stories were true stories? (You can specify which ones you believe are true and which ones aren’t)
  • Do they (or any of them) define your concept of love?
  • Do they (or any of them) inspire you in any way? (Discus how and why/why not)
  • Why do we love to talk/sing about these love stories but never want our kids/family to follow them as an example?

22 ji mai taan ih sab movies, songs or frnds to ya tv te vekh hi pta lagiya hai... ih sach ho v sakdiyan ne te nahi v...

baki rahi define karn di gal.. ih stories pyar (LOVE) nu bahut changi trah define kardiyan ne.. jadon kise nu v sacha pyaar hunda hai oh us vaste kisi v hadd tak ja skda hai.. mai v ihi sochda aa....

baki rahi inspire karn di gal... agar ih stories mere concept of love nu define kardiya ne taan fer mainu inspire v taan kar diyan honiya... mai ik cheez jo ihna to sikhi hai oh ih ki apne gf bf  nu hamesha hadon vad vad pyar karo..  ihna stories vich ik gal c jo ki ajj kal nahi hai.. TRUST ON EACH OTHER.. koi nahi pta kon kad chad jave,,option bahut ne na is layi..

we love to talk / sing abt these love stories coz somewhat somehow we want some one like them to love us..baki rahi gal apni familty te bachiya nu samjhun di gal.. isde bahut reasons ne..

1)sadde parents sanu befkuf samjhde ne te assi age ja ke apne kids nu befkuf samjhange...

2)apne time vich har koi aish karda hai.. har munda 2 3 gf labda hai. jadon usdi kudi di baari aundi hai taan usde vaste usdi pasand da ik munda v galat hunda hai..

3) jadon koi v parents di jagah aaunda hai us time usde sochn da nazriya change hunda hai... but i think ki time de naal naal har gal upper nazariya change karn di lod nahi... agar tuhade parents ne tuhanu befkuf samjhiya hai taan apne kids nu na befkuf samjhiyo..

remember one thing PARENTS ARE THE FARMERS NOT THE OWNERS

pta nahi mai ki ki bol dita...

padke das daina agar kuch galati lagi hove

See how much do these love stories hold good i can't comment on that but what i surely know is that all these stories are so emotionally awakening.
Yaar mai to kabhi kabhi sochti hu ki aaj kal ke ladke to bilkul bhi aise nahi hai.
The true love and affection is no longer present nowdays

Thats not completely true.Even today we can find people who really love each other and can sacrifice everything for the sake of their loved ones

But what i personally feel is that it is the love at first sight which leads to true love in the future.

The classic story of 'Heer RANJHA'that i read somwhere and i wanted to share it with you all

Heer
was an extremely beautiful woman born in a wealthy family "Sayyal". Ranjha
(Teedo) was the youngest of four brothers, after a confrontation with his
brothers, Ranjha left home and travels around and comes to Heer?s village,
where he found his love, Heer, who offered him a job to take care of there
cattle.  Having met Ranjha, Heer became mesmerised by the way Ranjha played the flute
(Wanjli)
and eventually fell in love with him. They would meet each other secrectly
for many years until they were caught by her jealous uncle "Kaido" and
parents (Chuchak & Malki). Heer was forced to married to another man
"Saida Khera", with the full permission of "Mullah" (priest), who was
well-payed by Kaido.

Ranjha was left broken hearted and left to walk the quiet villages on
his own until eventually met a Jogi (devoted beleiver in God). Having
entering Gorak's Tilla (Shrine) Ranjha could only see his departed lover
and being emotionally scared he voluntarally became a Jogi. Reciting the
name of the Lord "Allakh Naranjjan" on his travels around the Punjab he
found the village, where he was reunited with Heer. They escaped (also
with Saida Khera?s sister "Sehti", who was in love with "Murad
Baluch" -
an another famous love story of Punjabi Culture) but was caught by
Maharajah?s police. Maharajah punshid him to jail but same night whole
city was in flames. Maharajah freed Ranjha and permitted him to marry with
Heer.

They came back to Heer's Village, where Heer?s parents agreed to their
marriage. On the wedding day, Heer's jealous uncle, "Kaido" poisoned her
so the wedding wouldn't take place. Having heard the news Ranjha rushed to
aid Heer but was too late as she died. Ranjha becoming broken hearted once
again and died on her grave.

Sohni was the
daughter of a potter named Tula, who lived in Punjab near the banks of the
Chenab River. As soon as the Surahis (water pitchers) and mugs came off the
wheels, she would draw floral designs on them and transform them into
masterpieces of art.

Izzat
Biag, the rich trader form Balakh Bukhara, came to
Hindustan on business but when he saw the beautiful Sohni he was completely
enchanted. Instead of keeping mohars (gold coins) in his pockets, he roamed
around with his pockets full of love. Just to get a glimpse of Sohni he would
end up buying the water pitchers and mugs everyday.

Sohni lost her heart to Izzat
Baig. Instead of making floral
designs on earthenware she started building castles of love in her dreams
. Izzat
Baig sent off his companions to Balakh Bukhara. He took the job of a servant in
the house of Tula, the potter. He would even take their buffaloes for grazing.
Soon he was known as Mahiwal (potter).

When the people started spreading rumors about the love of
Sohni and Mahiwal, without her consent her parents arranged her marriage with another potter.

Suddenly, one day his barat (marriage party) arrived at the
threshold of her house. Sohni was helpless and in a poignant state. Her parents
bundled her off in the doli (palanquin)
, but they could not pack off her love in
any doli (box).

Izzat Baig renounced the world and started living like a fakir
(hermit) in a small hut across the river. The earth of Sohni?s land was like a
dargah (shrine) for him.
He had forgotten his own land, his own people and his
world. Taking refuge in the darkness of the night when the world was fast asleep
Sohni would come by the riverside and Izzat Baig would swim across the river to
meet her
. He would regularly roast a fish and bring it for her. It is said that
once due to high tide he could not catch a fish, so he cut a piece of his thigh
and roasted it.
Seeing the bandage on his thigh, Sohni opened it, saw the wound
and cried.

From the next day Sohni started swimming across the river with
the help of an earthen pitcher as Izzat Baig was so badly wounded, he could not
swim across the river. Soon spread the rumors of their romantic rendezvous.
One-day Sohni?s sister-in-law followed her and saw the hiding place where Sohni
used to keep her earthen pitcher among the bushes.
The next day her
sister-in-law removed the hard baked pitcher and replaced it with an unbaked
one
. At night when Sohni tried to cross the river with the help of the pitcher,
it dissolved in the water and Sohni was drowned. From the other side of the
river Mahiwal saw Sohni drowning and jumped into the river.

This was Sohni?s courage, which every woman of Punjab has
recognized, applauded in songs: "Sohni was drowned, but her soul still swims in
water..."

tina, thats not even a reply, lol.
nwyz, ofcourse everyone believes in them. thats y they are so famous. but than in todays world, there is no such comparison, as thier love is believed to be so much true. as of where today, we find someone, call it love and break up in a few weeks. therefore, it is another reson our parents seem to be against it. thier love didnt prove to successful, that should be kept in mind.

ya anme i agree with you these  Punjaabi Itihaas and Love Stories are realy pure and true one we cannot compare them with what ever going on in todays world ...nw a days ppl donot have stability they always move on from one thing to another which is not gud...in relationship you need is Commitment

Mirza Sahibaan Love Story
--------------------------------------

Mirza–Sahiban, a love-lore is a treasure of Punjabi literature. It is a romantic tragedy. Sahiban was another love-lorn soul. Shayer Pillo raves about her beauty and says," As Sahiban stepped out with a lungi tied around her waist, the nine angels died on seeing her beauty and God started counting his last breath…"

Mirza and Sahiban who were cousins and childhood playmates, fell in love with each other. But when this beauty is about to be wedded forcibly to Tahar Khan by her parents, without any hesitation she sends a taunting message to Mirza, whom she loves, to his village Danabad, through a Brahmin called Kammu.

"You must come and decorate Sahiban’s hand with the marriage henna."

This is the time you have to protect your self respect and love, keep your promises, and sacrifice your life for truth. Mirza who was a young full-blooded man, makes Sahiba sit on his horse and rides away with her. But on the way, as he lies under the shade of a tree to rest for a few moments, the people who were following them on horseback with swords in their hands catch up with them.
