"UTHO meri duniyan ke garibon ko jaga
do, Kaa khe umra ke dro
deevar hila do" "Jis
khet se dehkaan (farmer) ko myassar na ho roti , uss khet ke har khosha-e-gandham (wheat) ko jlaa
do...”.
The couplets from Allama Iqbal express the
buoyancy of the patriotic spirit and love for motherland and its people that
radiated the persona of Bhagat Singh, the peerless patriot and fearless fighter.
and still we celebrate birthday of GANDHI. we still think and
teach our kids dat BAAPU GANDHI brought independence. i would like to know whose

A very valid question... though there have been sagas of valour n sacrifice of young revolutionaries dying for the nation, still, when it comes to attributing our freedom, it invariably is attributed to Mahatma Gandhi... am not anti gandhi but have full respect for all d sacrifices made by d revolutionaries to... d reason well, myB the wave n the mindset of the ppl at that time... non violence n evthn... but it seriously is painful 2 c al wat revolutionaries did not bein credited for the independence | |

@kritav
saying with my personal experience .....
1.i havent ever heard from anyone in my life that gandhi or anyone else did more than any other person. i have been never taught anywhere, in skool or family, that gandhi was greater than bhagat singh blah blah blah at some other forum, i once saw a thread -- who's the greatest freedom fighter ? my instant reaction was wtf ! what an absurd question.
2. contri made by each person matters, coz aazaadi demands cost, that too a heavy one.
3. bhagat singh - i salute him, what he did has no parallels, but there might have been many others, who couldn't get their names in history.
bhagat singh knew and is obvious that just by going violent and killing some british oficers, ya can't get independance from britishers. the aim of hinsa-waadi freedom fighters like bhagat singh wasnt to kill britishers and throw them out, they wanted to awaken the sleeping india. if bhagat singh hadnt given his sacrifice, a majority of indians wouldnt have come outta their comfort zones.
gandhi ji -- he had no less contri ... the force of unity .. unity of common masses for common cause of freedom without picking up any hathiyaar and without going violent ..... had no answer from british empire .. this shook the british roots
BUT hadnt been the sacrifices of greats like bhagat singh, udham singh, there wouldnt have been many people from common masses fighting for independance, either by being a satyagrahi, or by being a hathiyaar-band revolutionary.
it all kinda goes in parallel .
so, i just feel pissed off when i see any discussion demonising any freedom fighter -- be it gandhi, or bhagat singh or any1 for that matter. yeah, gandhi must have gone wrong somehere in his policies about deciding post-independence india's future, like about partition stuff, and other things like withdrawl of movement afta Chaura-Chauri incident, but his intentions must have been for teh very good of india, though his unintentional mistakes had a till-today effect due to his emminent position in indian policy makers during pre-independance days
also, what we know ... me or anybody else ... majorly depends on what we have read, or heard or seen in media ... some incorrect facts presented in a very effective way through media might have a long lasting effect on a young brain ... so instead of being like "he was a bad guy, i know" , we should be like "he was a bad guy, thats what i have been knowing" ... i just mean keep the things flexible, since we all know that today's politicians cook stuff in media about everything .. indepenance fight ... about religion ... and just anything ... for the bloody heck of their vote bank ....... even the acad books and other literature hasnt remained unaffected.
no offences to anyone i salute bhagat singh, gandhi ji, and everybody else, name heard or not.

Bhagat Singh (September 28, 1907 – March 23, 1931) was an Indian freedom fighter, considered to be one of the most influential revolutionaries of the Indian independence movement. He is often referred to as Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Born to a family which had earlier been involved in revolutionary activities against the British Raj in India, Singh, as a teenager, had studied European revolutionary movements and was attracted to anarchism and communism. He became involved in numerous revolutionary organizations. He quickly rose through the ranks of the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) and became one of its leaders, converting it to the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). Singh gained support when he underwent a 64-day fast in jail, demanding equal rights for Indian and British political prisoners. He was hanged for shooting a police officer in response to the killing of veteran freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai. His legacy prompted youth in India to begin fighting for Indian independence and also increased the rise of socialism in India. Bhagat Singh was born into a Sandhu Jat family to Sardar Kishan Singh Sandhu and Vidyavati in the Khatkar Kalan village near Banga in the Lyallpur district of Punjab. Singh's given name of Bhagat means "devotee". He came from a patriotic Sikh family, some of whom had participated in movements supporting the independence of India and others who had served in Maharaja Ranjit Singh's army. His grandfather, Arjun Singh, was a follower of Swami Dayananda Saraswati's Hindu reformist movement, Arya Samaj, which would carry a heavy influence on Singh. His uncles, Ajit Singh and Swaran Singh, as well as his father were members of the Ghadar Party, led by Kartar Singh Sarabha Grewal and Har Dayal. Ajit Singh was forced to flee to Persia because of pending cases against him while Swaran Singh was hanged on December 19, 1927 for his involvement in the Kakori train robbery of 1925.

"The aim of life is no more to control the mind, but to develop it harmoniously; not to achieve salvation here after, but to make the best use of it here below; and not to realise truth, beauty and good only in contemplation, but also in the actual experience of daily life; social progress depends not upon the ennoblement of the few but on the enrichment of democracy; universal brotherhood can be achieved only when there is an equality of opportunity - of opportunity in the social, political and individual life." — from Bhagat Singh's prison diary

Bhagat Singh was a visionary whose battles against the British were based on the foundation of the principles he staunchly believed in and cherished. Even though Bhagat took the plunge in the non-cooperation movement called by Gandhi at an early age, he soon became disenchanted with Gandhian philosophy and gradually embraced the socialist way of thought.
